Threads became available to users in the European Union (EU) in December 2023, five months after its inception.

According to  Meta’s reports, its revenue is reported as $40.1 billion in the quarter ending of December 2023, which is ahead of estimates made by analysts ($39.18 billion).

Earnings were recorded as $5.33 per share, which also is ahead of estimates ($4.96).

 Net income was $14.02 billion. Revenue for the full-year 2023 was $134.90 billion.

Threads has achieved the greatest widespread adoption in various markets. India is the app's top market, accounting for over 32% of total downloads. Following India, Brazil accounts for around 22 percent of Threads installations, while the United States accounts for nearly 16 percent of total downloads.

Threads became the fastest-growing app to gain 1 million users worldwide. Within 1 hour from its launch, it gained one million users.

Within 48 hours, Threads hit 70 million users worldwide.

Threads declined similarly in the United States. At its peak in July, the app had 2.3 million daily active users. However, on August 7th, the number had dropped dramatically to around 576,000.

The fall in user engagement reveals the drop in time individuals spend using the Threads app. Initially, global daily active users spent approximately 14 minutes on the app; in the United States, this figure was  21 minutes on July 7th. 

However, by August 7th,2023 these engagement rates had dropped dramatically, with global users spending only 3 minutes on the app.

According to reports, most males (28%) are between the ages of 15 and 23, with 11% of males and 5% of girls aged 18 to 25.

Within 24 hours after its inception, people shared 95 million Threads, resulting in 190 million conversations.

According to a 2023 survey in the United States, the majority of Gen Z users downloaded the Threads app because it seemed fun.

Stats show that a majority of study respondents downloaded the app to try a new social media platform, and more than 20% tried Threads because their families and friends were using it.

According to Sensor Tower data, X (formerly Twitter) had over 349 million monthly active users versus 85 million for the Threads app in Q1 2024.

As of February 2024, in the United States alone, X ( formerly Twitter) has 27 million daily active users, compared to 1.6 million for Threads.

At the time, Twitter had not relaunched as X and had rate limits on posts, giving users an additional reason to choose an alternative.

Threads positioned itself as an alternative at the time, leveraging its existing userbase from Facebook and Instagram, which explains the early user surge followed by a drop in daily active users once the novelty worn off.

While initial Threads involvement was high, a large portion of users (24%) found it boring, compared to 11% who felt the same way about X.

X, once known as Twitter, has more than 100 million daily active users on Android alone. These users spend approximately 25 minutes each day on the platform.

As reports indicate that Threads' daily usage has experienced a significant decline, with users now spending only 10 minutes on the app, compared to the initial 20 minutes, it demonstrats the significant contrast in user engagement between Threads and X, the established social media giant.

 Such a drastic drop in user activity has raised eyebrows among industry experts, who have started labelling Threads as the "Twitter killer" that failed to live up to its name.
